My Top 3 Recommendations for Appropriate Books

I have a dilemma. As you probably have already observed, I love books and anything having to do with words. Sadly, most of the contemporary books out there are filled with stuff that simply do not interest me. Almost every book you touch in the YA section or even the adult section, contains some sort of profanity, sexual content, or language that is  just straight up offensive. Now, if you do read these books I am in no way shape or form roasting you. I simply want to offer those sensitive people, like myself, a different alternative when it comes to books. All book nerds have a different style, genre, and author they gravitate towards. That is what makes the reading community so wide ranged and so fascinating. So, without further ado, these are my top 3 recommendations for appropriate books.

#1 The Jane Austen Series

If you're a book lover, chances are you already know who Jane Austen is. If you don't, then don't get me started because I can talk about her, all day. The Jane Austen Series consists of 6 main books, which throughout the years, have been turned into movies, have been used for the basis continuation of novels, and have become classics. The first, and most popular, book I would recommend, is Pride and Prejiduce. Not only is Jane Austen my favorite author, but this is also my favorite novel. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are just #couplegoals (atleast in book terms lol). The second book, is none other than Emma. This growing up story about Emma Woodhouse is sweet, beautiful, and absolutely unexpected. If you're looking for a novel that will just make your heart melt, then this one is definitely for you. Persuasion, is another Austen classic. Though Persuasion is more of an "adult fairy tale" it is a love story about the reconciliation of the very compatible Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth. Sense and Sensibility is right up there with Pride and Prejudice. The two very different Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, will have you captivated as they both experience two very different realities concerning love. Elinor falls in love with the handsome Edward Ferrars, though she conceals it and tries her hardest to deny her feelings, while the hopelessly romantic Marianne undoubtedly falls for the mysterious and young Willoughby. They both learn true lessons about life and love. Next up is, Northanger Abbey. This coming of age story, follows Catherine Morland, a young girl who is caught up in the dream world of the famous Gothic novels of the time. Though, this story may have some references to scary stories, regarding the Regency Era's Gothic novels, it is more likely that this book was written to be taken as a parody rather than an actual horror story. I don't know if I would recommend this book to younger ages, I have not read it myself, but if it seems interesting, it is not at all like the mysteries or thriller books of this era. Last but definitely not least is, Mansfield Park. I absolutely love this story. Mansfield Park is actually a cross between all five of the Austen books, in my opinion. It's fun, light-hearted, and Fanny Price, the protagonist of the story, and her beloved friend Edmund Bertram, will delight your heart throughout the novel. All of these books are romantic novels, but from the ones I have read they do not contain scenes that involve graphic sexual content or inappropriate language. Rarely, do they even kiss.

#2 The Canadian West (When Calls the Heart) Series by Janette Oke

A couple years ago, I came across the When Calls the Heart show on "The Hallmark Channel" and absolutely fell in love with it. When I found out it was a book in a series, I went a little crazy! The Canadian West Series also consists of 6 books, beginning with the first book, When Calls then Heart and ends with the last book When Tomorrow Comes. When Calls the Heart is such a beautiful story. It follows a  young and privileged teacher named Elizabeth Thatcher who travels to the old Canadian frontier. The struggles along the way and during her stay in Hope Valley bring lessons that she takes with her everywhere. She also falls in love with a very handsome Royal Canadian Mountain Police....and that's all I'm going to say about that. ;) The series follows Elizabeth throughout her entire life as a Christian teacher. Because Janette Oke is a very famous Christian author, the stories are filled with Christian morals and Bible verses that just bring out the sweetness of the novels even more. The order of the novels are When Calls the Heart, When Comes the Spring, When Breaks the Dawn, When Hope Springs New, Beyond the Gathering Storm, and When Tomorrow Comes.  There is some kissing in the books between Elizabeth and her husband Jack, but nothing graphic. From what I can remember there is no swearing.

#3 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, is another classic. It follows the four March sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Though, Josephine "Jo" March is the protagonist of the story, the other three March sisters are very essential to the plot. This book will definitely make you laugh, cry and even get a little upset. It is a beautifully written story and I highly recommend it. Though there is some romance in it, it is not heavily focused on. It focuses more on the family. There is no graphic material in this book as well.

That's all I have for this blog today! I have many more appropriate book recommendations. If you would like to hear them, let me know in the comments below.

Remember, "You are the books you read, the movies you watch, the music you listen to, the people you spend time with, the conversations you engage in. Choose wisely what you feed your mind." :)

"Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." (Proverbs 4:23 NASB)
