Why Travel is So Important
He watches. The man with the bright red tie sits and
watches. He listens and observes. His observations are different than those of
his senses and as he breathes in the familiar essence of the airport, the
people around him rush, forgetting to stop for a moment and escape their
stressful lives. His peculiar idiosyncrasies betray his calm expressions and a
glance at his watch deceives his patience. He is petulantly waiting to board
his plane, but his persistence in watching, occupies him. As he watches, he
knows not that I watch. I watch his mannerisms, I watch the rush of the people
and I watch how the world works. With 7 continents and more than meets the eye,
my ways cannot be the most efficient.
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth.” As I sit and wonder about how beautifully and unconceivably amazing God’s
Creation is, I can’t help but dream about seeing the world. Paris and the
Eiffel Tower, London and Big Ben, and even Alaska and the Northern Lights, are
not half of the many beautiful sights, God has allowed us to travel and see. God did not put us on this earth to be stagnant. He did not create us to
have one set of our own ways to do things. There are many reasons why He has created us
and I really do believe, that one of those reasons is so that we can learn from
each other. God has created so many different languages, cultures, and people, so why should we take it for granted? Why should we just assume that our way is
the best, when God specifically tells us that His ways are so much higher! We
don’t know anything, and what we do know is because of Him, not us. Jesus
Himself traveled from place to place proclaiming His awesome and beautiful Word
and because of Him, His Word is still, to this day, being proclaimed throughout
the world, and no one can ever destroy it!
I can't tell you how many times I have felt a sense of satisfaction, a sense of experience, by the mere act of "people watching" at an airport. It is my favorite place to observe how we all are going in different directions, some in a hurry, some taking it slow, and some just waiting. The mix of cultures and the tourists who know that any interaction with someone is just momentary, paints me a picture of how the world would look like if there were no borders. Love your post! Traveling, in my opinion, is a necessity for true growth. Knowing how to do things one way does not give much room for out-of-the-box thinking. Also, when we begin to look to our neighbors and how they do things, we find that their methods can either solidify our ways of doing things, or help us change it for the better. Let's travel beyond the horizon...who knows, we just might influence others to consider different ways of doing things also.
